The company we want to build
Goose Group is a way for Mike and Alex to do interesting, useful work with people we want to work alongside. We charge for our time and take responsibility for what we agree to do. We want the company to remain understandable enough that its structure supports the work.
Smallness is a choice
We have worked in organizations where size brings useful resources and where it creates distance between a decision and its consequences. We want to keep that distance short.
The people discussing a problem should remain involved in making and testing the response. We build tools that help us work with more range, and bring in other people when their contribution makes sense. Growing the organization is a decision to justify against the work and the life it creates.
Responsibility should come with room to act
We want colleagues who can exercise judgment, ask a difficult question, and take a useful first step. That requires context and trust, as well as an expectation that they will make their reasoning available to others.
Independence includes noticing what another person needs in order to continue. It includes teaching, asking for help, and making a decision when delaying it would leave somebody else carrying the uncertainty.
We want people to be treated with dignity even when their work is hard to measure or their contribution looks different from ours. The company has to make room for those differences in practice.
Money makes the arrangement possible
Paid work supports the time, attention, and care we can give it. Clear scope and commercial terms help everyone understand what has been promised and what can realistically be carried.
We want customers to keep the capability we create together. Continued work should follow from another useful thing to do, with enough clarity for either side to decide whether it makes sense.
There should be room for other kinds of value
The company can also make space for things whose value does not fit an engagement. Writing helps us examine our own assumptions. Art, experiments, and gifts can be worthwhile without needing to become a new service line.
Mooi Niet is one expression of that interest: a Goose Group gallery project in Amsterdam with its own beliefs, relationships, and creative purpose. It deserves to be understood on those terms.
The connection is a question about the conditions we make possible. Who gets the time and freedom to do good work? What does the arrangement actually reward? We want to ask that of our company as seriously as we ask it of the systems we help change.
The account should remain open to correction
Writing down a belief does not establish that we live by it. The test is what happens when it costs time, money, or convenience to follow it.
We want to be able to examine those moments, change our minds, and leave a clearer account for the next person. This site is part of that effort: a place to understand the company and question its reasoning, as well as see what we are making.
